Mrs Edwards demonstrated a tomato sauce for pasta recipe last week.  We would love to see how your dishes turned out.

Tomato sauce for pasta

Ingredients

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion – finely diced

400g can chopped tomatoes

1 garlic clove, crushed

1 crumbled stock cube

1 tbsp tomato purée

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp sugar

few basil leaves (optional)

Method

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan,

Add diced onion, then gently fry for 2 minutes – do not allow to burn

Add 1 crushed garlic clove, then gently fry for 1 minute

Tip in 400g chopped tomatoes, 1 crumbled stock cube, 1 tbsp tomato purée and 1 tsp sugar, then bring to the boil.

Add 1 tsp dried basil and stir

Reduce the heat, then simmer uncovered for 5 mins, stirring occasionally.

To finish, tear a few basil leaves, then stir into the sauce.

To cook pasta:

50g dried pasta (or fresh if following video) per person

Boiling water

Pinch of salt

Bring a pan of water to the boil

Add the pasta into the centre of the pan

Stir once to ‘unstick’

Cook for 10-12 minutes if using dried pasta or 3-4 minutes for fresh pasta

Drain and serve
