Prof D Richards – Chairman of Eaglewood School Governors and Finance

David Richards BEng MSt (Cantab) PhD CEng MICE
I have been a Parent Governor at The Arnewood School for over 9 years and recently became the chair of the Eaglewood Governing Board to help and support the senior management and teachers in providing the very best alternative provision education experience. I am a Chartered Civil Engineer and have worked in higher education for 30 years and currently the Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Southampton.

Dr E Stack – Parent Governor – Curriculum and Assessment

Dr Emma Stack GradDipPhys MSc PhD
I am the Parent Governor at Eaglewood (focusing on curriculum and assessment), having enjoyed being a governor at a New Forest primary school. After 20 years in Parkinson’s disease research, I now concentrate on writing full-time. My background in Human Movement Science means I am familiar with the principles of teaching and learning and I still occasionally teach post-graduate students. However, I am happily the lay member of Eaglewood’s Governing Body, using my experience and giving my time to support my fellow governors and our excellent school.

Dr R Catton Governor – Health & Safety and Finance

I have a PhD in Nutrition and worked in the commercial world for 22 years, managing business operations for a large foods and feedstuffs group and then a technology company. I switched from helping shareholders to helping children by entering teaching in 2004 and spent 14 years teaching science in secondary comprehensives with the last 3 years helping Eaglewood move from a pilot initiative to being fully operational.

Ms Mel Strachan – SEN Governor

I qualified as a primary teacher in 1991 and then competed a postgraduate research degree. My career established itself at primary level where I developed an interest in young people with SEN and started to specialise in this area. Since then, I have worked extensively in both primary and secondary fields as a special needs teacher and SENCO, completing specialist dyslexia assessor training at Southampton University and my National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL). I am also an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association. Currently I work as a SENCO in a Dorset secondary school and have recently established my own business doing consultative work, private specialist dyslexia and DSA assessments. I have gained some experience of governance in my role as a Staff Governor in a previous post.

Mrs C Whitlock – Staff Governor – Pupil Premium and LAC

My name is Claire Whitlock and I have had the privilege of being a teacher of Eaglewood School since 2016. After spending over twenty years in education, I still feel passionate about making a difference. I am a Mum of two teenagers and understand the daily challenges of parenting. Together with a team of amazing and creative teachers, I am committed to providing our pupils with a nurturing and developmentally sound foundation for a lifetime of learning. I am Lead Key Stage Two teacher with a whole school responsibility for Assessment and Reporting; assessing pupils’ Academic Development (IQ) and Social and Emotional development (EQ), whilst reporting their achievements to parents/carers and home schools. At Eaglewood, I know that our pupils need an extra helping hand to guide them and I strive to create and maintain an environment where they can grow and thrive to become balanced individuals… better versions of themselves!
